Berlin/ Stuttgart, Nov 07, 2005 -- DaimlerChrysler AG has received the “Innovation Award 2005” from the German Federal Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (Bundesverband für Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik - BME). The prize was awarded to the DaimlerChrysler procurement organization for non production material and services, International Procurement Services (IPS), during the 40th BME symposium, “Purchasing and Logistics”, held in Berlin. IPS is one of four divisions of DaimlerChrysler’s purchasing organization Global Procurement and Supply (GP&S).
GP&S is one of the largest OEM goods and services purchasing groups in the world, with responsibilities for all production and non-production purchasing activities within DaimlerChrysler. GP&S is organized on a global scale with activities all over the world. With an annual purchasing volume of around €15 billion, IPS is responsible of around 15% of the annual purchasing volume of GP&S.

“In recent years, we have successfully encouraged the bundling of purchasing activities to lasting effect, and gained significant expertise along the way. This BME award for our International Procurement Services Organization confirms the success of our global purchasing strategy, which is aimed at shaping the world’s most effective supplier network.” said Thomas W. Sidlik, Member of the DaimlerChrysler Board of Management responsible for Global Procurement & Supply.

Dr. Heinrich Reidelbach, Vice President and Head of IPS, commented on the award: “The strategy of IPS is built on global standardization and bundling to continuously improve our purchasing results without putting the burden solely on our suppliers. In order to continue down this path, we have introduced new and innovative tools, such as unified and transparent supplier ratings or the strategic qualification of our employees.”

Since 1986, the BME Award has been recognizing innovative services and concepts, which lead to a sustainable increase in the efficiency of procurement and supply activities, thus contributing to both company results and creating value for all market partners involved.

In addition, Dr. Felix Heusler, member of DaimlerChrysler’s GP&S team, was awarded with the BME “Science Award” for his achievements in the field of purchasing and logistics. The employee is with the material purchasing group for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and was honored for his dissertation titled “Implementation of Supply Chain Management”.
